Mid Winter Break

Out here in Seattle, some school children and teachers have a "mid-winter break". Because of President's Day being on Monday, I had this entire week off of teaching at the EEU. It's been a really productive week.

A while back my friend Megan asked me to do a forest mural on her basement wall. It's been about 6 months since we began talking about it, maybe even longer. I decided to take my photos from Mt. Rainier, Hawaii and other nature and plant photographs for inspiration. Working about 5 hours per day, I completed the mural in 5 days of painting. I used acrylics mixed with house paints.

My schedule this week was very similar to when I was in school majoring in painting. I quickly fell back into the noon-5pm painting schedule. Life is grand when you wake up around 8am, go for a run or do yoga, eat breakfast and then begin painting around noon. Five hours of painting per day is about what my creative energy can handle right now. In the evening I've been playing my banjo and reading this book called, "Thinking in Pictures". It's a book on autism by Temple Grandin. It's been a great insight to some of the children I work with.

The mural is complete, my first one ever. I am seriously considering doing this more often, it was fun. Right now I'm heading out to Seward park to go for a run before the bright sun sets.

Let me know what you think of the mural.

Stay well.
